Daniel Akaka Mural

On Sunday May 20th, 2018 we held a ceremony at Kaneohe Elementary for the unveiling of our mural of the late Daniel Akaka. Daniel Akaka was the first person of Native Hawaiian descent to serve in the US Senate.  Not only did Daniel Akaka serve in the US senate, US House of Representatives, and in World War II, he was also the principal at Kaneohe Elementary from 1965-1968. Robotics Art Crew At Nu'uanu Elementary

Our April 22nd art session at Nu'uanu Elementary School marks the first donation of our Playground Art Crew Coloring Books to local students! The coloring books feature a collection of artwork by artists from Hawai'i.  Mr. Nakagawa's Robotics Class joined the crew for a two-part art session. Finally, they illustrated their custom robots and explained how would it work and what it would accomplish. The second part...

Coloring Book Release Party

With holiday season in full swing we decided to host a release party for our first ever coloring book. The coloring book features a collection of illustrations by local artists from Hawai’i. For every coloring book sold, we will be donating a coloring book to a student at a partnering elementary school. This coloring book is a true representation of Playground Art Crew’s mission: Local artists inspiring local students. The coloring book release party was a great way to celebrate the talented artists that contributed to the book, as well as create a space where these creative minds could connect. Another year in the books, but our story is far from over! Our coloring book is now available for purchase online...

Kaneohe Elementary School Donation, Day Two

We’re back at Kaneohe Elementary for our second donation day with Ms. Sakamoto’s class of talkative and curious third graders! It was so nice to revisit Kaneohe Elementary for the second time in one week. In fact, as we were walking to set up in Ms. Sakamoto’s class, we passed by Ms. Sekimitsu’s class and saw some of the students had brought their Playground Art Crew tote bags back to school to carry some of their supplies! As with our other art lessons, we began with some quick and easy warmups for the students to get into the groove of things and explore their new art supplies. We wanted to give this class a different art project from the class...
